Legrand’s Ysalis switches and sockets - with the latest technology for energy saving, safety and reliability - have recently been launched in South Africa.

The compact design of these mechanisms provides more space in the back box for easy wiring and for enhanced safety, a spacer separates high and data currents.
There are various modules available - from one to three modules, up to six modules - with double or triple pole switches.
Universal dimmers are designed for new and existing installations, to dim incandescent and halogen loads, as well as LEDs and compact fluorescent lamps.
For easy installation, data sockets are fitted with tool-less connectors, eliminating the need for punch down tools.

Legrand’s extensive range of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, encompasses solutions designed especially for the protection of data in small offices, commercial environments and home applications.
“Niky and Niky S UPS single phase systems, which ensure a safe and reliable power supply from 600 VA to 3 000 VA, have been developed by Legrand for quick installation and easy configuration,” states Sonja Leibbrandt, marketing and pricing manager, Legrand SA. “These compact microprocessor controlled UPS systems have an electronic automatic voltage regulator (AVR) an intelligent communication interface and integrated self-diagnostics, to provide reliable protection of the installation.”
Other features include a cold start function, an RS-232 or USB interface and modem/LAN telephone protection. Buttons and LED signalling provide real time control of the status of the UPS system.
Niky line interactive UPS – single phase VI systems, with IEC multi-socket outlets and a pseudo-sinusoidal waveform, offer a back up time between 5 and 30 minutes. This system offers advanced management according to battery discharge level.
Niky S line interactive UPS – single phase VI-SS systems have a sinusoidal waveform output, excellent voltage regulation and intelligent battery management, to offer protection against voltage peaks, as well as over-load and short-circuit protection. The back up time of this system, which is either eight or nine minutes, is measured under optimum operating conditions.
A range of communications accessories has been designed for managing and configuring the UPS, as well as for remote control of the system.
These UPS systems are available in convenient, user-friendly packaging and are supported throughout the country by Legrand and its carefully selected distributor network.
Legrand’s lighting and motion management systems encompass a wide range of sensors designed to make buildings more energy efficient by automatically reducing the amount of time lighting is left on unnecessarily.
“Reduced lighting consumption not only lowers operating costs, but also reduces lamp replacement and maintenance requirements and helps decrease Green House Gas (GHG) emissions,” says Sonja Leibbrandt, marketing and pricing manager, Legrand South Africa. “Motion and lighting management sensors can operate in occupancy mode where lights are automatically switched on or off according to occupancy, or in vacancy mode for additional energy saving, where lights are manually switched on and automatically switched off when the person leaves the area. These sensors can also use passive infrared technology (PIR), ultrasonic or dual technologies.
“Lighting management sensors are suitable for areas of a building with or without natural light, including passages, corridors, hallways, staircases and restrooms and also for offices, storage rooms and warehouses. These sensors are also available with advanced features for installation outdoors and in humid areas of domestic, commercial and industrial buildings.
Legrand’s lighting management sensors for controlling a single circuit in outdoor and damp areas with natural light, have an IP55 index protection rating to guard against the ingress of dust and water. These sensors, with three wires and neutral, have an automatic switch on/off occupancy mode setting and switch off automatically when there is sufficient natural light in the area. There is an adjustable time delay between 5 s and 59 minutes and a light level threshold from 5 to 1 275 lux.
These PIR wall or ceiling mounted multi lens sensors have a 270° infrared detection with a 18 m range and a 0,7 W standby consumption. The recommended fixing height is 2,5 m and with the use of accessory, these units can also be mounted in a corner. (0 489 33)
Lighting sensors for controlling a single circuit in outdoor and damp areas without natural light have automatic on/off controls, manual adjustment of the light level threshold and time delay via a potentiometer.
PIR direct wall/surface mounting motion sensors, with a recommended 2,5 m fixing height, have 360° infrared detection and an 8 m range. These sensors have adjustable light level thresholds from 10 to 1 275 lux and an adjustable time delay between 10 s and 10 minutes. Standby consumption is 0,75 W.
PIR sensors for wall or ceiling mounting, with a directional head, have a 360° infrared detection and standby consumption of 0,9 W. The light level threshold is adjustable from 1 to 1000 lux and the time delay is between 12 s and 16 minutes. The minimum fixing height is 1,7 m and the optimum distance between sensors is 6 m.
Legrand’s lighting management solutions for outdoor areas and humid areas also includes sensors for managing multiple circuits.
PIR technology direct wall/surface mounted 180° sensors have a front range detection of 6 x 15 m and consumption of 20 mA on standby. Connection to the controller is via a cord or RJ 45 cable.
Legrand’s lighting management systems have been designed and manufactured to avoid energy waste as the building only consumes just the amount of energy it needs, when it needs it.
Legrand’s new freestanding and wall mounting Linkeo 19” enclosures have been designed for easy installation, high performance and optimum safety in commercial sector installations.
“Linkeo 19” enclosures are supplied with a wide range of accessories to offer a complete solution for all projects,” says Sonja Leibbrandt, marketing and pricing manager, Legrand SA. “These metallic extendable freestanding and wall mounting cabinets ensure the ordered arrangement and optimum protection of electrical components like terminal blocks, switches and sockets, fuse carriers, safety transformers and circuit breakers.
“Linkeo 19” enclosures have a textured polyester coating which provides excellent resistance to corrosion and scratching. An IP 20 Index protection rating guards against solid objects and liquids and an IK08 rating offers protection against mechanical impacts.
“Cabinets and equipment are supplied ready-assembled or as flatpack solutions in stackable wooden cases, depending on customer requirements.”
Linkeo 19” freestanding cabinets have a reversible front door with a safety glass window and removable side and rear panels. For added security, all four sides can be locked with a key lock. These units are equipped with 2 x 19” uprights, which are adjustable in depth. There are pre-cut top and bottom cable entries and a cut-out at the top for fan kits.
These freestanding enclosures, with a loading capacity of 400 kg, are equipped with levelling feet and an earthing kit. Extension cabinets are supplied with a baying kit for safely joining the cabinets. Other accessories include metal plinths and pivoting castors, as well as fixed or telescopic shelves. Linkeo fan kits have an integrated thermostat which is adjustable from -10°C to +80°C.
Linkeo 19” wall mounting cabinets, with a reversible flat safety glass door and integrated lock, are designed for simple, two-step wall fixing of the base and the cabinet. These enclosures are supplied with 2 x 19” uprights which are adjustable in length. Other features include an adjustable top cable entry with a foam seal and rear and bottom cable entries equipped with blanking plates. These cabinets have top perforations for natural ventilation and can also be equipped with fan kits. Earthing kits are a standard safety feature.
As an alternative to ready assembled Linkeo 19” enclosures, Legrand also offers flatpack solutions for compact transportation, easy handling, efficient storage and effortless mounting.
Linkeo 19” freestanding and wallmounting flatpack cabinets are available as a one part number, where all components are supplied in one pack, with high protection packaging. Flatpack cabinets can also be split up into four part numbers and delivered in small, light packages.
Also available are 19” metal Bati-racks for housing 19” equipment in an air-conditioned, secure, dust-free environment. For improved resistance to corrosion and scratching, these units have a textured polyester coating.
Bati-racks, which comprise 2 or 4 x 19” uprights, ensure full access to wiring and are supplied ready for assembly. Specially designed cable management sleeves, with a closed vertical feedthrough, are designed for fixing on the left or right of the 19” uprights, providing a perfect finish.
These units, with a 300 kg permissible load, are supplied with a roof for four upright Bati-racks, a set of four castors, shelves and levelling feet.

Legrand SA has extended its range of DLP trunking to now include the DLP-S ECO snap-on series, with new features for quick installation, flexibility and ease of use.

Legrand SA has launched the new DLP-S ECO range snap-on trunking into the local market.

Legrand’s DLP-S trunking is available with white covers that retain colour quality, maintain original shape and have resistance to flame propagation and mechanical shocks.
Legrand’s modern DLP-S ECO snap-on trunking, designed for the
efficient integration of power and data sockets in new installations
and refurbishment projects, is suitable for high and low current
applications in all building sectors, including domestic, office,
commercial, banks, hospitals, computer centres and industry.
This trunking system is available in two sizes - 85 x 50 mm and 130 x 50 mm, in 2 m lengths - and can be mounted vertically or horizontally, with minimal tooling requirements. Rigid profiles have perforations that are easy to cut to rectangular shape and a self-guiding cover ensures easy fitting. No additional supports are required - 45 mm Arteor wiring devices are simply clipped on the trunking body. A plastic protective film is easily removed after installation.
For convenience, components of this system – which consist of a body, cover and partition - have one single catalogue number per trunking size.
Ready to install accessories provide a perfect finish for cable routing and ensure quick completion of the installation. These components include internal and external variable angles, with a ready to fit assembly that adjusts easily to all configurations. Internal and external fixed version angles (at 90°) offer space saving solutions for installations without constraints of configuration.
Legrand’s new generation of programmable time switch technology encompasses AlphaRex³ and MicroRex time switches for precise temperature control in domestic, commercial and industrial environments.
“Legrand’s Rex time switches, with analogue and digital dials, are ideally suited for OEM's and panel builders who can pre-programme the time switch during installation. At a later stage when the panel or product is connected to power, all the end-user has to do is set the real time,” says Marius Labuschagne, Legrand's technical and solutions manager. “These programmable time switches ensure high clock precision, optimum reliability, maximum safety and enhanced aesthetics.
“In temperature control applications, these devices are used to switch an electric circuit on or off at selected times during a pre-programmed time period. These time switches also have an automatic return facility and a permanent forced switching on or off override control.
“Typical applications for time switches in heating and cooling installations include water heaters, air conditioners, heating and ventilation systems and swimming pool heaters.”
These time switches are available with standard and multiple functions, with a daily or weekly programme facility and a clock working reserve of six years.AlphaRex³ programmable time switches have a user-friendly standardised text guided programming facility, with a high resolution digital display and backlight. There is a standard, single data key for all devices in this range to allow quick and easy transfer of programmes to other time switches and for creating back up copies.
Programming with clock precision to the second is controlled directly on the time switch, or outside the distribution board using a PC and Legrand’s AlphaSoft programming software. Other features include an EEPROM memory which prevents settings being lost and the facility to programme the clock prior to despatch. Once the unit has been programmed, the information will remain installed even if the switch is not connected to power. The battery can be removed without having to uninstall the time switch from the distribution board.
MicroRex time switches offer easy plug and play installation for daily and weekly programming. By simply setting the analogue switching dial during start up, the time is automatically set using the fast-run mode. In the event of a power failure, the time is automatically reset.
MicroRex analogue and digital modules are 24 hour and seven day time switches for DIN rail and wall mounting, with a 100 hour running reserve. These units have the capability for multiple programmes, which ensures optimum time setting flexibility. MicroRex time switches have an LED status indicator, a precision clockwork of 0.2 s/day and are controlled by either a quartz or synchronous motor. For increased safety and user convenience, there is an automatic and manual and advance/over-ride facility.
An analogue defrost switch is available for short periods of controlled defrosting. The timer can repeat one or two settable short programmes within 24 hours and the defrosting time is from one to 60 minutes per contact.
Other time switches in the Legrand range are designed for precise control in security installations – for access points; electric fences and alarms – as well as for use in industrial installations, including pump stations, filters and conveyors. Legrand time switches are also used for the lighting of commercial boards and signage, as well as for street lighting. Time switches in agricultural applications are used for irrigation and sprinkler systems and for cyclical programmes, like animal feed systems.
This range is available nationally from Legrand’s distributor network and a technical advisory and back-up service is also offered.
Legrand’s Arteor wiring devices combine stylish design and leading-edge technology to offer wiring devices with numerous functions and various finishes that meet the requirements of basic electrical functions, as well as complicated and demanding automation tasks.
Included in the Arteor portfolio of lighting controls are Energy Class A bedside reading lights, available in white or magnesium, with the option of a round or square base.
These two module bedside reading lights, which offer directional lighting, are fitted with maintenance-free LEDs, with a 3000 K colour temperature and neutral white colour. Other features include screw terminals, a power input of 3.3 W and a luminous flux of 110 lumen - equivalent to 15W incandescent.
Included in Legrand’s portfolio of Arteor lighting controls are Energy Class A
bedside reading lights, available in white or manganese, with the option of a
round or square base.
Arteor reading lights are conveniently installed in the bedhead and are suitable for direct connection to a 230 V mains power supply. These devices have an integrated ON/OFF and dimmer control. A flexible cable allows the unit’s head to swivel for precise lighting and user convenience. These reading lights offer a service life of approximately 4 000 hours. Mechanisms are supplied with rocker plates, to be equipped with support frames and plates.
Other Arteor devices for visual indication include illuminated and overdoor lighting units, as well as skirting lights.
Legrand - specialists in products and systems for electrical and digital building infrastructures - manufactures an extensive range of bulkhead lights designed for various environments.
The range includes bulkheads for standard applications; weatherproof Koro and Plexo fittings for tougher environments and a decorative range of exterior bulkheads, designed for enhanced aesthetics and improved safety.
“High performance lighting not only enhances the ambience of outdoor areas at night, but also provides a reassuring feeling of safety at all times,” states Johan Bosch, general manager, Legrand SA. “Weatherproof bulkhead lights have been designed to withstand tough environments and are also ideal for use as escape sign lighting.”
Bulkhead lights, with an IP54 rating, are fitted with a high resistance seal to offer protection against water and dust. This range, which is available with round and oval polypropylene bases and porcelain lampholders, accommodates compact fluorescent lamps. These bulkheads have resistance to high temperatures and are self-extinguishing at 850ºC.
Legrand’s range of weatherproof bulkhead lights includes bulkheads for standard applications and weatherproof Koro and Plexo fittings for tougher environments. A decorative range of exterior bulkheads is designed for enhanced aesthetics and improved safety.
Legrand’s LED bulkheads lights have integrated sensors, with settings for detection, a switch off warning and an adjustable automatic standby function. It is easy to manually modify time delay, daylight setpoint and detection range settings.
Robust weatherproof bulkhead lights, with an IP 55 rating, have been designed for interior and exterior use in tough environments, including industrial applications. Oval fittings, with a colourless glass diffuser, accommodate 55 W halogen lamps, 17 W compact fluorescent lamps or 8 W LED lamps. Round units, also with a colourless glass diffuser, can be fitted with 70 W halogen lamps, 20 W compact fluorescent lamps or 12 W LED lamps.
Plexo rectangular bulkheads have an IP54 rating and are also suitable for use in tough environments. These units have a clear or red polycarbonate diffuser mounted on a hinge and the opening can be reversed top to base. 17 W fluorescent compact lamps or 8 W incandescent lamps can be accommodated in the grey base.
White Koro bulkhead lights have a polycarbonate diffuser mounted on a hinge and the opening can be reversed right to left. The porcelain lampholder is mounted on a swivel, pull-out type reflector. These bulkheads are fitted with 70 W halogen lamps, 20 W compact fluorescent lamps or 12 W LED lamps.
Included in the Koro range are vandal resistant bulkhead lights that can be surface or flush mounted indoors and outdoors in tough environments. This fitting consists of a shock-resistant clear polycarbonate diffuser, a glass fibre body re-inforced with composite materials and a robust grill type rim for a compact 20 W fluorescent lamp or a 70 W halogen lamp. To lock and secure this fitting, two special tamperproof screws are tightened with a specially designed tool.
Legrand’s wire and cable management solutions include a stylish trunking system which is especially well-suited to covering cluttered home entertainment wires, speaker cables, TV and video cabling, as well as for hiding jumbled office wiring.
“This system, which is available in a DIY kit form, is simple to install and easy to keep clean,” states Johan Bosch, general manager, Legrand SA. “Unsightly cords and cabling hanging from a newly installed flat TV screen can now be easily hidden.
“The self-adhesive backing of this trunking ensures a secure installation, with a professional finish.”
Legrand’s electrical devices for the DIY sector encompass video door entry kits, UPS units, CCTV systems and distribution trunking. The handyman range also includes plugs and accessories, surge protected sockets, extension cords and cable reels. USB adapters, which are suitable for the home, office, or during travel, are plugged into a socket, providing a safe and convenient method of re-charging mobile devices. New to the DIY portfolio are pop-up boxes, circuit breakers, timers, conduits and connector blocks.
Lighting products in the DIY range include inspection lamps, LED portable lamps, bulkhead lights, night lights, switches and sockets, as well as plug-in devices, with an adjustable night light function.
